DOHA, 28 October, 2015: The British Standards Institution has awarded Lusail Real Estate Development Company the ISO 18001 certificate in recognition of its commitment to strong occupational health and safety standards, for thousands of workers employed at Lusail City.

The OHSAS 18001 accreditation is an internationally recognized and accepted management standard for occupational health and safety. It is used as a method of assessing and auditing Lusail’s occupational health and safety management systems, providing a framework to identify, control and minimize safety risks to the workforce through the development of emergency response plans.

Engineer Essa Mohammed Ali Kaldari, CEO of Lusail Real Estate Development Company, said at the awards ceremony that occupational health and safety represent a top priority for Lusail, highlighting that the company has completed thousands of working hours without lost injury time.

“Lusail adopts strict occupational health and safety measures in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. The OHSAS 18001 certificate reflects our commitment to compel all contractors and developers at Lusail city to implement to the highest safety standards,” Kaldari said.

Waleed Al-Khal Fakhroo, Lusail’s director of Health, Safety, Security, Environment, Logistics, and Quality said the OHSAS 18001 certificate puts a great responsibility on Lusail towards the development of occupational health and safety procedures.

Fakhroo said the advantages of obtaining such a certificate include the periodic follow-up by international organizations on the implementation of safety standards within Lusail Real Estate Development Company.

“Lusail has adopted numerous programs to encourage developers and contractors to adopt occupational safety standards. The company has honored contractors who performed 5 million, 10 million, and 15 million work hours without the occurrence of injury, and is providing various incentives to ensure the health and safety of Lusail’s workers is a leading concern,” he said.

The third edition of the Qatar International Boat Show (QIBS) was inaugurated on Tuesday 10th November by H.E. the Minister of Economy and Commerce, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassim Bin Mohamed Al Thani, who cut a red ribbon to formally open the week-long event.

He was then taken on a tour of the Show in the presence of his entourage, ambassadors, VIPs and other top officials.
The third edition of the Qatar International Boat Show (QIBS) was held from November 10 to 14 at Lusail Marina. The QIBS is hosted by Qatari Diar and Lusail City.

This years’ show showcased more than 120 brands and 85 boats both on land and in water. Visitors enjoyed the beautiful views of the Arabian Gulf and explored the luxury offerings in a family-friendly environment.

– Qatar’s Corporations Collaborate for the Development of Smart Metering Solutions

Ooredoo has today announced the completion of a successful Smart Metering trial in collaboration with Lusail Real Estate Development Company with support from Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) for the creation of the region’s first large-scale greenfield smart city.

The trial, which used an IP-based multi-vendor Smart Metering set-up, was conducted in the Ooredoo Advanced Smart Innovative Solutions (OASIS) Lab in Doha.

The successful trial is a major step forward for Qatar, as the country has ambitious plans for the construction of numerous smart cities. Consequently, the results from the completion of the smart metering trial will be used as a blueprint for the system in Lusail city.

Smart meters are the next generation of power meters, delivering a range of intelligent functions, including enabling homeowners to understand how much energy they are using on a display in their home, and helping city planners manage demand for water and power.

Lusail City, a flagship project of the Qatari Diar, is the largest single development to be undertaken in the State of Qatar. It will provide a switched on, high-technology environment comprising both wired and wireless communication networks on the Ooredoo Supernet, deploying smart city technology to reduce environmental impact and enhance the lifestyles of residents and visitors.

CP7B, one of Lusail’s most iconic smart city projects has begun to take shape thanks to the Qatari Diar – Saudi Bin Ladin Group Consortium (QD-SBG) who secured the tender to produce works on the landmark smart city area.

The agreement, which has already enhanced momentum key to materialising ‘The Heart’ of the Smart City, will contain some of Lusail’s most notable infrastructural works, including the construction of: the main A1 artery road, Lusail Plaza ‘Public Realm’ and car park, 2 km of multi-lane below ground highway, a 3 level combined tunnel, flyovers and bridge crossings, Light Rail transit station, a 4 storey underground car park, local access roads, associated mechanical, electrical and hydraulic installations, and waterfront landscaping works. As such, the completed works will contribute heavily to the transportation, commercial and social hub of the entire Lusail City development.

Thus far, project designs have already been issued for the construction of shoring systems, with the completion of permanent works for the schematic design finalised. However, detailed design plans are still in the early stages with on-going co-ordination with authorities currently awaiting approval.

Nevertheless, fundamental construction works on CP7B has commenced with the initiation of piling works, sea protection diaphragm walls and site specific excavation, which is now approximately 1/3 of the way to completion (totalling 2 million cubic meter). Formation preparation has also been operationalised through the advancement of concrete blinding in selected areas in north and south CP7B locations.

CP7B contractors QD-SBG will continue to draw on their vast experience and resources to ensure a highly successful project outcome, contributing to the high calibre delivery of design and construction in keeping with Lusail’s innovative development and building prowess.

Lusail City one step closer to completion

Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LREDC) signed a prestigious contract with the Qatari Diar – Saudi Bin Ladin Group Consortium (QD-SBG), to design and implement the delivery of some of Lusail’s most notable infrastructural works.

The flagship contract, worth an estimated QR 4.2 billion, includes the construction of: the main A1 artery road, Lusail Plaza public realm and car park, 2 km of multi-lane below ground highway, a 3 level combined tunnel, flyovers and bridge crossings, Light Rail transit station, a 4 storey underground car park, local access roads, associated mechanical, electrical and hydraulic installations, and waterfront landscaping works.

The considerable arrangement between the two companies endeavors to further enhance the development process, key to materialising ‘the heart’ of the Smart City, with the completed works contributing to the transportation, commercial and social hub of the entire Lusail City development.

Commenting on the contract, Essa Mohammed Ali Kaldari, Chief Executive Officer of LREDC, said: “Considering the magnitude of the project; exhaustive prequalification stages allowed a handful of heavy-weight construction consortium companies to enter the competition to tender. Once completed, the main A1 road connecting North Lusail to the South, will enable easy and comfortable access to both the heart of the Lusail City and the Waterfront Commercial.

The contract with QD-SBG illustrates yet another exciting development in the advancing formation of the highly anticipated completion of Lusail City. Extending over an area of 38 square kilometers, comprising four islands and 19 multi-purpose  quarters, the city will include 22 hotels and housing for 200,000 residents and 170,000 employees.

Lusail Real Estate Development Company has showcased its latest environment-friendly and sustainable architectural designs to hundreds of visitors who toured the Qatar Pavilion at the Expo Milano 2015.

Officials from Lusail Real Estate Development Company briefed visitors on the Global Sustainability Assessment System, a green building certification system developed for Gulf Cooperation Council countries and currently applied in the development of Lusail City.

Issa Mohammed Ali Kaldari, CEO of Lusail Real Estate Development Company, said the firm aimed through its participation in the Expo Milano 2015 to familiarize visitors with the progress that Qatar’s construction industry has accomplished so far in terms of architectural design and sustainability standards.

The Expo Milano 2015 is an international fair that takes place over a six-month period. The fair provides a platform for the exchange of ideas between experts, businessmen and investors on food security under the theme “Feeding the planet. Energy for life.”

The expo, which aims to provide a platform for dialogue about food production, health, energy and sustainability issues, hosts more than 84 pavilion representing 54 countries along with a number of corporations and civil society organizations.

The state of the art venue is set to host a number of hugely popular events, including the Qatar Motor Show and the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition.

With the ongoing growth of the events industry in the region, the addition of this valuable and unique venue which extends over 47,700m² is expected to solidify Qatar’s position in the GCC events market – estimated to be worth $1.3billion.

CP7B, one of Lusail’s most iconic smart city projects has begun to take shape thanks to the Qatari Diar – Saudi Bin Ladin Group Consortium (QD-SBG) who secured the tender to produce works on the landmark smart city area.

The agreement, which has already enhanced momentum key to materialising ‘The Heart’ of the Smart City, will contain some of Lusail’s most notable infrastructural works, including the construction of: the main A1 artery road, Lusail Plaza ‘Public Realm’ and car park, 2 km of multi-lane below ground highway, a 3 level combined tunnel, flyovers and bridge crossings, Light Rail transit station, a 4 storey underground car park, local access roads, associated mechanical, electrical and hydraulic installations, and waterfront landscaping works. As such, the completed works will contribute heavily to the transportation, commercial and social hub of the entire Lusail City development.

Thus far, project designs have already been issued for the construction of shoring systems, with the completion of permanent works for the schematic design finalised. However, detailed design plans are still in the early stages with on-going co-ordination with authorities currently awaiting approval.

Nevertheless, fundamental construction works on CP7B has commenced with the initiation of piling works, sea protection diaphragm walls and site specific excavation, which is now approximately 1/3 of the way to completion (totalling 2 million cubic meter). Formation preparation has also been operationalised through the advancement of concrete blinding in selected areas in north and south CP7B locations.

CP7B contractors QD-SBG will continue to draw on their vast experience and resources to ensure a highly successful project outcome, contributing to the high calibre delivery of design and construction in keeping with Lusail’s innovative development and building prowess.
